Aaron Michels, CEM, Director of Operations at Energy Resources Group, will participate in the BEPS: Energy Efficiency & Resilience Roundtable presented by the Missouri Gateway Green Building Council tonight, September 15.
The discussion will examine how building owners, managers, architects, engineers, and other professionals are navigating Building Energy Performance Standards locally and nationally. Panelists will share real-world experiences, challenges, resources, and the potential benefits of treating BEPS as an opportunity for strategic building improvement.
Aaron will bring ERG’s experience helping St. Louis building owners understand BEPS requirements, evaluate energy-efficiency opportunities, and develop practical compliance strategies.
The panel also builds on Aaron’s participation in the U.S. Department of Energy-funded Building Performance Standard Pathway Alternatives and Training Hubs project, commonly known as BPS PATH. Led by the Institute for Market Transformation. The project concluded in June 2026 and examined alternative compliance pathways used across the country and worked toward a clearer, more consistent framework for buildings that cannot reasonably meet a standard compliance target.
Aaron contributed the perspective of an energy consultant working directly with building owners and implementing St. Louis’ alternative compliance process. That practical experience reinforced a central lesson of the project: alternative pathways must provide meaningful flexibility while still producing measurable energy improvements and long-term accountability.
Aaron will join fellow panelists Anica Landreneau of HOK, Molly Gearin Corley of the Missouri Historical Society, and Rob Lochner of Midas Hospitality.
The roundtable will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Havana Room in the Cortex Innovation Community, 4240 Duncan Avenue in St. Louis.
